Treatment Options for Optical Aberrations
In many patients, a gas permeable contact lens will correct the optical aberrations and greatly improve vision. Tears are trapped between the lens and the cornea, “filling in” the irregularly shaped cornea and correcting the aberrations.
Glasses and soft contact lenses generally CANNOT correct optical aberrations.
Soon, excimer lasers will be able to create “custom shapes” to correct the irregular shape of the cornea that is the cause of the optical aberrations in many patients.
